Please join us in congratulating Jose Ruiz, RN, 8th floor, on being named our DAISY Award Honoree for January 2024.
Jose began his nursing career at St. Francis in October 2022 as a new nursing graduate. From the very start he made an impression on patients, families, and colleagues alike.
Jose was nominated for this nationally recognized top nursing award by a patient’s family member, who said, “While most of our nurses were wonderful, Jose was exceptional. He was assigned to my husband one day, but every day on the floor he helped the nurses assigned by giving meds, assisting with needs, checking on my husband and going above and beyond to find answers to our questions, even when my husband wasn’t his patient! He really cared and worked to advocate for my husband and what was in his best interest. Being a healthcare professional myself, I really was impressed by his dedication to the patients and his job. Thank you, Jose, for making our stay a whole lot better!”
Attending what he thought was a team meeting, Jose was taken completely by surprise when his name was announced as the DAISY honoree by St. Francis’ executive and nursing leaders. Surrounded by coworkers, he said that the best thing about St. Francis is the teamwork. “I couldn’t do my job without everyone.”
Jose said he has a passion for caring for people and felt led to become a nurse. With a chuckle he added, “Before I was a nurse, I was a mechanic. My friends joke and say ‘You can fix my car, and now you can fix me.’”
