About Us

St. Francis Medical Center is proud to be the newest member of the Prime Healthcare family of hospitals.

A valued and trusted community resource, St. Francis Medical Center (SFMC) was founded in 1945. SFMC serves the healthcare needs of the communities of Southeast Los Angeles. SFMC is a 354-bed acute care hospital and one of the largest and busiest emergency and Level II trauma centers in Los Angeles County, treating more than 80,000 emergencies and 2,000 trauma injuries a year. We are approved by the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency as a Primary Stroke Care Center and a STEMI Receiving Center. We have won awards from the American Heart Association for our commitment to heart, stroke, and diabetes care.

The Family Life Center

The Family Life Center offers comprehensive maternity and newborn services. Nearly 3,000 families choose to have their babies here every year. We provide specialized care for you and your baby in the comfort of your own private room. Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one of the few in Southeast Los Angeles, and we partner with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and UCI Health to provide the highest level of care to every newborn in the NICU.

Emergency and Trauma Services

Each year more than 60,000 patients receive emergency medical care in our emergency department. Our emergency department is EDAP-certified (Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics), a Certified Primary Stroke Center, and a designated paramedic base station. Our Level II Trauma Center treats more than 2,000 trauma patients a year.

Heart Care

St. Francis Medical Center is proud to be a STEMI (segment elevation myocardial infarction) heart attack receiving center. STEMI heart attacks are one of the most serious types of heart attacks. We partner with paramedics, physicians, and associates to ensure STEMI patients get diagnosed and treated within 90 minutes of paramedics’ arrival. Statistics show that STEMI response greatly improves the chance for survival.

Surgical Expertise

Our experienced health care team and state-of-the-art technology work together to support patients during treatment and recovery. From the minimally invasive to complex procedures, our team guides patients and their loved ones every step of the way.

Orthopedics and Joint Care

We offer a full range of orthopedic services including: pain management, nonsurgical treatment, minimally invasive surgery, spine care and back pain management, joint replacement, and physical therapy.

Care Begins with a Safe Place

We are committed to making our facility a safe place for care. You can rest assured that we’ve taken all the steps we can to protect you and those you love.

St. Francis Medical Center is actively monitoring COVID-19 with state and local health departments and the CDC. For more information, visit the CDC website.
