St. Francis Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, hosted a community health fair on Friday, May 1, 2026. The fair featured free health screenings for blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), height and weight and waist circumference. Additionally, hands-only CPR instruction, also known as sidewalk CPR, nutrition education and stroke education were offered.
St. Francis Chief Nursing Officer Marilou Salao said, “The health fair was open to people of all ages. Our event provided a source of early detection for diseases and serious conditions, especially for residents who may lack access to regular healthcare. We are a trusted center of care, well known within the community, where families feel comfortable coming.”
Community members, hospital visitors and medical center staff attended and took the opportunity to learn their important health numbers, which provide insights into risks for chronic conditions like heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Knowing these metrics enables a person to take an active role in managing his or health and to track changes over time.
City of Lynwood Mayor Pro Tem Lorraine Avila Moore stopped by the fair to show her support. She visited the various booths and met with attendees and staff. She said, “St. Francis Medical Center’s health fair and events such as these are a valuable way to educate people. They make health services more accessible to residents and connect them to resources they need on a local level.”
The community health fair is among St. Francis Medical Center’s many outreach services it offers throughout the year, which encompass health screenings and education at local schools and senior centers, prenatal education classes, and trauma and injury prevention classes on helmet safety, stop the bleed, fall prevention and car seat safety.
Salao said, “Our health fair was all about awareness and prevention. Through education and an understanding of their own health numbers, people can begin taking steps toward making healthy living and lifestyle choices. Spring is all about renewal. What better way to celebrate the season than with a revitalized focus on wellness.”
