Free Sidewalk CPR

In support of National CPR and AED Awareness Week June 1-7, St. Francis Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, is offering free “Hands-Only CPR” instruction on Friday, June 6, from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency.  Hands-only instruction will be conducted in the Patient Tower atrium at the main entrance to St. Francis Medical Center, located at 3630 E. Imperial Highway in Lynwood.

CPR instructors will demonstrate the proper techniques of Hands-Only CPR.  Hands-only CPR consists of strong, fast, rhythmic chest compressions without the rescue breaths.  The hands-on sessions give participants the opportunity to practice the technique on CPR simulator mannequins.  According to research reported by the American Heart Association (AHA), hands-only CPR can be as effective as traditional CPR with rescue breaths when it is performed in the first critical minutes of an adult experiencing cardiac arrest outside the hospital.

More than 350,000 people suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the United States annually.  The AHA stresses that immediate CPR can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.  With seventy percent of cardiac arrests occurring at home, administering CPR until first responders arrive could save the life of a loved one.

No appointment is necessary, and walk-ins are welcome.  Participants should use the Imperial Highway entrance and park in the visitors lot or parking structure 2.  For questions please call (310) 900-2823.  Note: The class is not a CPR certification course, but information on how to get certified will be available.

St. Francis Medical Center is one of 52 sites in LA County partnering this year with LA County EMS to offer Hand-Only CPR.  For a list of additional sites, please go to  https://dhs.lacounty.gov/emergency-medical-services-agency/home/emergi-press/sidewalkcpr/
