St. Francis Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, is hosting a community health fair on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm near the main hospital entrance.  The fair will feature free health screenings for blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), height and weight, and waist circumference.  Additionally, hands-only CPR instruction, also known as sidewalk CPR, and stroke education on awareness and prevention will be offered.

St. Francis Chief Nursing Officer Marilou Salao said, “The health fair is open to people of all ages.  Our event provides a source of early detection for diseases and serious conditions, especially for residents who may lack access to regular healthcare.  We are a trusted center of care, well known within the community, where families feel comfortable coming.”

In addition to providing important health screenings, the fair will also give attendees the opportunity to learn more about the hospital’s central role in addressing the healthcare needs of the community.  St. Francis provides critical services for Southeast Los Angeles and beyond.  It operates one of the busiest private emergency and trauma centers in Los Angeles County.  It is a comprehensive stroke center and STEMI receiving center, essential for a region that has a high incidence of stroke and heart disease.  Its Family Life Center offers comprehensive services for maternity patients, including an obstetric emergency department specializing in pregnancy-related concerns and a level III neonatal intensive care unit dedicated to the care of premature and critically ill newborns or those needing advanced care.  The hospital houses a 40-bed inpatient Behavioral Health Unit, with plans to expand to 80-plus beds in the near future in response to the growing need for mental health services.

The community health fair is among St. Francis Medical Center’s many outreach services, which encompass health screenings and education at local schools and senior centers, prenatal education classes, and trauma and injury prevention classes on helmet safety, stop the bleed, fall prevention, and car seat safety.

Salao said, “Our health fair promises to be an educational event that encourages healthy living and lifestyle choices.  Spring is all about renewal.  What better way to celebrate the season than with a revitalized focus on wellness.”
