Spring 2026 Safety Grade is a national recognition for commitment to patient safety

St. Francis Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety.  Leapfrog assigns an “A”, “B”, “C”, “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country using evidence-based measures of patient safety focused exclusively on errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

“Achieving this top-tier safety rating validates our commitment to excellence,” said St. Francis CEO Clay Farell. “By prioritizing safe care, we directly improve patient outcomes, reduce readmissions, and ensure shorter, better hospital stays.  This accolade is a testament to our team’s unwavering dedication to providing consistent, quality care with an exceptional level of safety.”

“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that St. Francis Medical Center is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We commend the leadership, board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“At St. Francis, we are deeply committed to a comprehensive safety culture,” says Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anantjit Singh. “Our team aligns on critical initiatives, from stringent infection control and proper antibiotic use to fall prevention and safe medication administration.  With safety as a cornerstone of our care, we help to ensure the best possible patient outcomes.”
