Conditions that Lead to High-Risk Pregnancies
A high-risk pregnancy happens when you have one or more conditions that put you or your baby at a higher-than-normal risk for health problems.
These conditions include:
- High blood pressure
- Reproductive health issues, such as polycystic ovary syndrome and infertility, which can make it difficult for some moms-to-be to stay pregnant
- Diabetes
- Being overweight (obese)
- Being a young (teen) or older (age 35 or older) mom
- Using alcohol, tobacco or street drugs during pregnancy
- Multiple gestation, a pregnancy with more than one baby, such as twins or triplets
